Quality Assurance

How we do it right the first time

Each case at Killian Dental Ceramics goes through an extensive administrative and technical Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QC) process.  The doctor’s general case preferences are kept on file and attached to each new case we receive.  The general preferences are updated from meetings, telephone conversations and any feedback received from the doctor.  Additionally, the contents of each case are recorded upon arrival and verified to ensure that they are returned to the doctor’s office along with the finished restoration. The technical QC process is an all day activity involving Steve Killian, CDT as he instructs technicians in the laboratory about all aspects of superior crown & bridge and implant fabrication.  Each case that requires correction is used as an example for demonstration of proper results.  Verification of those results is observed at several steps throughout the processing of the case and at final completion.  These photos visually describe some of those steps.

1. THE DOCTOR’S WORK ORDER and permanent computer record of technical preferences are read and understood by each department before work begins. 2. At COMPLETION OF MODEL WORK and before waxing or scanning the written orders are read and understood again.  Bite registrations, articulations, model, die and impressions are all verified for accuracy.
3. WAX FRAME. The written orders are re-read.   The wax pattern design accuracy is verified.  Changes and new instructions are issued as needed.  Final accuracy is verified. 4. WAX OCCLUSAL. The written order is re-read and wax occlusal design accuracy is verified.  Changes and instructions are issued as needed.  Finished quality is verified.
5. METAL FRAME – The written orders are re-read.  Changes and instructions are issued.  Accuracy is verified. 6. At THE FINAL QC of the case the orders are re-read.  Changes and instructions are issued.  Shade, contour, occlusion, margins, and contacts are all verified for accuracy and confirmed to be consistent with work orders, natural design and proper function.
7. FINAL QC - OCCLUSION is verified on the pinned working model. 8. FINAL QC - CONTACTS are verified on an uncut solid model.
9. FINAL QC - MARGINS are verified on the master dies.  The master dies are used only for waxing, scanning and QC verifications. 10. FINAL QC ON SEMI-ADJUSTABLE ARITICULATOR
Final Quality Assurance of cuspid rise, anterior guidance, centric occlusion and the elimination of interferences on inclines are all verified on a semi-adjustable articulator per doctor preferences.
